Giles Guthrie

I have been working in partnership with Mike Williamson as a tour guide for the past 8 years. I have combined this role with that of training as an electrician and becoming a useful grandad!

As a history graduate with a BA in history and MA in museum studies, I have been lucky enough to have had a career in human history with twenty years? experience as a museum curator and collections manager, including for the Royal West Kent Regimental Museum.

This has given me the opportunity to develop a specialist understanding of how to research the many different regiments and battles of the First World War and has helped me acquire in-depth knowledge.

My personal interest is in the bringing to life the detailed experiences of individual soldiers and sharing these within the context of the Western Front Battlefields.

Working closely with guests, I specialise in personal research prior to the tour, thus creating bespoke visits to specific significant battle sites and monuments. In this way our tours reflect the needs and interests of individuals and enable everyone to commemorate and remember within a warm and informal environment.
